Rural Studio

A great interview and website on the Rural Studio.

Auburn University's Rural Studio in western Alabama draws architectural students into the design and construction of homes and public spaces in some of the poorest counties in the United States. They're creating beautiful and economical structures that are unique in the world — and that nurture sustainability of the natural world as of human dignity.

Perspective collage examples

Sometimes, using a level of abstraction makes an image much more powerful than a photorealistic one. The use of line makes the space legible in a way that a typical 3d max rendering wouldn't. Color and collage can quickly be added in photoshop to give an indication of context.

Midreview

Midreview is Thursday, November 1. For Midreview, required are
- Fully resolved site and program analysis
- Schematic plans and sections
- Multiple iterations of your physical or digital models.
- Perspective sketches of interior relationships that you are working towards.

At this point, everyone should have a clear intention for their project that can be explained in three sentences. It is not about the small moves that respond to small site considerations- you all need a clear goal that all of your decisions are working together to respond to.
